Quick and Easy Plier Safety Guide
Pliers are simple right? When was the last time you stepped back and considered if you were using your pliers safely and correctly? We've taken the hard work out of it and put down a couple of simple rules to make sure you stay safe.
- The grip on all plier handles are either PVC or cushion style
- Grips are provided primarily for comfort
- Unless specified as insulated handles, they are not intended to give any degree of protection against electric shock and should not be used on live electric circuits
- Use safety goggles
- Do not use pliers with cushion grips on electrical circuits
- Do not use extenders or cheater bars
- Shield yourself and bystanders when using retaining pin pliers
- Always use correct type and size of pliers
- Never use pliers to hold/turn fasteners – always use the correct sized spanner
- Keep pliers clean and occasionally oil pivot pin
- Regularly inspect pliers for wear or damage
- When doing electrical work, never rely on insulated handles alone – shield live parts with insulated sheaths and rubber mats – wear rubber gloves and boots
We've also put together our top knife safety tips to help keep you safe.
